DM UPHOLSTERY & CUSHIONS

cLEANING GUIDE
When cleaning a cushion constructed of interior-grade foam, professional cleaning is recommended.

When cleaning a cushion constructed of exterior-use foam, we recommend flushing it with water and allowing it to air dry without removing the cover.

Repeated removal of the cover may eventually break down the seams and distort the fabric. Professional dry cleaning is always recommended for tough stains.

FABRICS

White Boucle (Dara Maison Performance Fabric)
Our performance fabric is easy to clean, durable and water resistant.

  • • To maintain the quality of the material regularly vacuum.
  • • To avoid staining, spills should be removed immediately using a white absorbent cloth to blot any excess liquid from the surface.
  • • If a stain occurs use mild, bleach-free soaps and cleaning agents by dabbing the stain with a clean white cloth.
  • It is very important not to use coloured cloths, as the colour may rub off and stain the upholstery fabric. If water alone will not remove the stain, a diluted carpet/upholstery shampoo can be used in accordance with the instructions. Never apply the cleaning solution directly onto the upholstery, but onto a dampened white cloth.
  • • Avoid rubbing as this may damage the woven fabric.
  • • Ensure that the items are left to air dry.
  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.

Please note repeated washing of the performance fabrics may reduce the effectiveness of the stain-resistant finish.

    Velvet
For everyday maintenance and to keep velvet upholstered items at their best, we recommend the following:

  • • Brush or vacuum any loose dirt from the surface of the fabric, following the direction of the pile.
  • • To avoid staining, spills should be removed immediately using a white absorbent cloth to blot any excess liquid from the surface.
  • • Using a clean, damp cloth or sponge gently dab spot to remove remaining stain.
  • • For more stubborn stains, apply a natural soap or a mild detergent to the cloth and gently rub (excessive rubbing may damage the fabric).
  • • Rinse with clean water and let air dry.
  • • As a final step, comb the pile with a soft, bristle brush in the direction of the nap.
  • If velvet is not regularly maintained, high use areas such as seats, arms may show signs of pile tangling and matting over a period of time. This is a typical property of velvet and may occur naturally over time. If this should happen you can remove this by applying a damp (not wet) cloth overnight, which will restore the natural fibre of the material.

Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.

  • Vegan Leather
For everyday maintenance and to keep your vegan leather shining, we recommend the following:

On a daily basis the leather can be kept clean by wiping off the surface with a soft, dry cloth.

Preserve your leathers by wiping them down weekly, with a soft non-abrasive cloth or even tissues. To remove dirt and stains from vegan leather, simply wipe over the fabric with a cloth lightly soaked in warm soapy water.

Prevent excessive pulling of the leathers, it is relatively fragile and can tear when pulled hard.

Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, as the leather is sensitive to sunlight.

    DM STONE

    General guidelines
All our stones have a textured, honed surface. Stone is a porous material that can easily absorb water and other liquids which may cause damage. We recommend the following care to help keep the surface of your stone as you want it.

All stones have natural pores, and if the stones are contaminated by oils or beauty products, fruit juices, wine, tea, coffee, sauces or candle wax these can easily form stains if they are left for any period of time.

    Travertine
To avoid staining, spills should be removed immediately using a white absorbent cloth to blot any excess liquid from the surface. Lightly dust off the surface before wiping it down with a damp, soft cloth or sponge.

Stains should be cleaned with a lukewarm water and a small amount of non-acidic cleaner. Ensure that the stone is dried properly following cleaning.

    MARBLE
Never use acidic solutions to clean stone as acidity may mark the sofa your marble and cause discolouration. Wipe away any spillage immediately using a soft cloth. We suggest using marble cleaner and gentle cleaning implements to avoid scratches. Acid substances like wine, coffee and fruit juice may cause staining. Treat locally with a mild detergent or stone wash to avoid staining, although it may not disappear entirely.
    SANBLASTED Crema Stone
Simply wipe down with warm soapy water.

Stains should be cleaned with a lukewarm water and a small amount of non-acidic cleaner. Ensure that the stone is dried properly following cleaning.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Brass should only be cleaned with a brass cleansing product, following the recommended application. Wipe clean and dry with a dry, soft cloth.

Please note that water on the surface may make the brass oxidise faster.

To maintain the best colour of the antique brass and ensure longevity, we recommend to keep water off the brass completely wherever possible.

    Polished Chrome
Chrome surfaces are resistant to dirt and liquids, but water can cause the surface to corrode. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. To clean, wipe with a dry or damp cloth lukewarm soapy water with natural soaps. Wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth. For stubborn stains, these can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Ensure that any residue is fully removed by cleaning with a damp cloth.

    WOOD

    RAW OAK
Preserving the finish of our raw oak furniture is straightforward and usually requires simply wiping with a damp, soft cloth.

We suggest treating the tabletop and bottom with special oak wood oil as this provides extra care and protection against stains and marks.

To remove stains gently wipe down the tabletop with a soft, cloth and wood detergent in the direction of the wood’s grain patterns.

    WALNUT & Smoked walnut
Regularly dust with either a dry lint-free cloth, or wipe down your surface with a damp cloth. Avoid detergents and soapy water in order to maintain the quality and condition of your walnut wood.

Never use harsh or chemical cleaning agents.

Avoid exposing furniture to excessive humidity, heat or direct sunlight.

    BURL WOOD
We advise using a slightly damp, soft cloth to dust over burl wood surfaces.

Do this regularly to minimise dust accumulation. If a spillage occurs, clean immediately with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

    OTHER

    CLEAR ACRYLIC
Dirt can be removed with a cloth wrung in lukewarm water, adding dishwashing soap to the water for stubborn stains. Rinse with a clean cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid streaks.

    RATTAN
Dust your rattan furniture often to maintain quality. A damp cloth dipped in a light mixture of warm water and washing up liquid is advised, but take care not to soak the furniture. Do not use paint thinners or harsh creams to clean wicker or rattan. Always dry rattan furniture after cleaning to avoid deterioration of the material and any build up on mildew. Cushions should be left to dry separate from the rattan frames.
